Perlane is a non-animal stablized hyaluronic acid gel that is near identical to the hyaluronic acid found naturally in the body. Perlane fillers supplements the body's natural supply of hyaluronic acid and fills in wrinkles, furrows, depressions and scars. Perlane fillers are biodegradable and last between six months to one year.

The advantages of Perlane is that it is a non-permanent and natural treatment for modeling and contouring effects of the body. Perlane injections can be performed within 30-45 minutes and are relatively painless. The effects of Perlane last twice as long as collagen up to six to twelve months.

What are the side effects?

Side effects of Perlane are mild with temporary bruising in addition to swelling and numbness for a few days. In rare cases, there has ben reports of lumps. These side effects can be easily reversed with a treatment of hyaluronidase, which is an enzyme that speeds up the natural degradation of the injected hyaluronic acid filler.

What can I expect after the procedure?

Nearly all of our patients return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure. It is best to rest though if possible. Mild swelling and/or bruising may occur for up to three days. When going to bed, it is best to sleep at a 30-degree angle and avoid sleeping on one side to avoid disturbing the placment of the filler. Patients may take Tylenol for pain but not take Aspirin or Ibuprofen. Aspirin and Ibuprofen may increase bruising.
